How Lumo watches over the wall

Lumo is the little Flower of Life that lives on this site. Part of his job is to notice when someone might be having a hard time, so they're not alone with it.

The only thing you do here is draw

There is no text box, no chat and no uploads. Lovelab collects no text from you. Your drawings are the only thing you put on the site. Lumo doesn't react to how you move the mouse. He only follows the pen while you are drawing.

What is read

An automatic program (a simple AI) looks at the drawings on the white wall and the black board. It only looks for signs that someone may need help, for example signs of suicide or self-harm, someone being hurt by another person, or a call for help.

Lumo also watches how the pointer moves, live, to notice if someone may need help; movement is never stored. (For example, it can tell if someone traces S-O-S in the air, circles tightly over and over, or shakes the pointer frantically for a long time. Short snippets of movement are checked on our server the moment they arrive and then thrown away. Movement while you draw, and touch screens, are not part of this.)

Right now all of this runs entirely on our own server. Nothing is sent to any AI company.

What happens if it notices something

Lumo shows a small card with phone numbers where you can talk to someone, and a "Message Stinky" button that lets Stinky, who runs Lovelab, know with one tap (no typing). Stinky gets a private alert by e-mail: the time, wall or black board, and what was noticed. There is no movement data in it and nothing that says who you are. Alerts are seen only by Stinky and are deleted after 48 hours. You stay anonymous: we don't know your name, and we don't ask for it.

What we store, and for how long
